I sent out an email about how to make an ukulele case from a cardboard box last November.
How does one make a case for an ukulele from a cardboard box, you ask? Well, you could ask Ralph Shaw- but here is an awesome example from a friend of the club.

First step is to find some cardboard, and use it to make a box of the right size: she used her uke's shipping box as a guide.
The inside of the box you make needs to be bigger than the shipping box (about 1" on all 4 sides), to allow room for the ukulele after the padding is added.
Reinforce the cardboard with a few coats of carpenter's glue to make it hard and durable, and cover it with fabric.
Coat the fabric with more glue, and with a varnish of some kind for weather resistance.
Add hardware (she used lift-off hinges, but would use butt hinges next time) and a handle, then padding and a liner to taste- and enjoy!
She also made the ukulele, by the way (from a kit). The pics don`t do justice to her handiwork on either the instrument or the case.
